The Academy has a modern pottery workshop. In order for students to be able not only to paint but also to create their own ceramic and porcelain works, pottery courses were introduced into the academic program. The principal element of pottery is working with clay – a pliable material that, when dry, retains its shape. Modern pottery, as in antiquity, includes the following basic stages: preparation of raw materials, i.e. clay, creation of components on a potter’s wheel, product design, surface treatment, decoration, glazing, drying, and firing in a kiln. Pottery is also taught in supplementary education courses for children and adults.
